Granskoven Strand is a sandy beach divided into three sections located in sheltered waters behind harbor facilities in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. The beach is oriented toward the southwest and features vegetation of grassland. The northern sections lie within harbor installations while the southern section is more exposed. The water is classified as saltwater and the seabed consists of sand to depths of approximately 2 meters.

Water

Saltwater beach in sheltered harbor area. Beach length approximately 620 meters. Seabed consists of sand. Water depth is relatively small with 110 to 160 meters distance to reach 2 meters depth. The dominant current direction is from the west (39% of measurements). Depth conditions vary due to tidal and weather effects.

Location

Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. Access is via Revvej with parking at the entrance to the area. A gravel road leads from the parking area to the beach. A bathing platform has been installed by Slagelse Municipality.

Facilities

Information board at beach entrance, bathing platform, parking area, lifeguard post, toilet facilities, first aid equipment, emergency telephone, warning system for degraded water quality. The beach holds Blue Flag status.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on data from 2012–2017. Monitoring is conducted 10 times per year. Risk of short-term pollution exists from extreme rainfall events, with an overflow from a combined sewer system located 1 km inland. Slagelse Municipality recommends against swimming for 3 days following extreme rainfall events.

Risks

Risk of short-term fecal pollution from extreme rainfall events and potential discharges from pleasure boats, manure tanks, and sewer lines. Risk of blue-green algae blooms is assessed as low. Seaweed (tang) may wash ashore but typically washes out again within days. Glass fragments and other waste may occasionally occur.
