Musholm Bugt Strand is a sandy beach located on the open coast facing north in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. The beach is 10 to 25 meters wide and approximately 700 meters long, bordered inland by coastal cliffs. The seabed to approximately 2 meters depth consists of sand without seaweed and stones, with reef formation beginning between 130 and 220 meters from the shore. The water is classified as saltwater and has been rated as excellent bathing water quality based on data from 2012–2017.

Water

Saltwater beach. Width 10–25 meters, length approximately 700 meters. Seabed to 2 meters depth consists of sand. Distance to 2-meter depth ranges from 110 to 180 meters from shore. Reef formation begins between 130 and 220 meters from the coast.

Location

Musholm Bugt Strand is accessed via Tårnborgvej and parking is available at the entrance to the settlement Stibjerg Huse, approximately 250 meters south of the beach. A longer path leads from the parking area to the beach.

Facilities

Bathing pier, disabled access to beach, parking area with information board, first aid equipment, emergency telephone, Blue Flag designation.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent, determined from monitoring data 2012–2017. Monitoring occurs 10 times per year. Dominant current direction is from the west (88% of measurements). No correlation has been detected between current direction and increased pollution.

Risks

Risk of algal blooms is assessed as low, though they can occur suddenly during prolonged warm periods with nutrients in water. Risk of seaweed wash-up at waterline; typically washes out within a few days. Algal toxins can cause headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur. Swimming is not recommended for 3 days following heavy rainfall. Sudden pollution from incidents involving pleasure boats, manure tanks, or sewage lines is possible.
