Felstedskov is a bathing area located on the southern side of Aabenraa Fjord in Denmark. The beach is approximately 300 meters long with varying widths of 1 to 10 meters, consisting of sand and small stones with marram grass vegetation. Water depth remains under 2 meters up to approximately 170 meters from the shoreline. The beach has been classified as excellent quality based on regular water samples collected between 2019 and 2022.

Location

Felstedskov is situated on the southern side of Aabenraa Fjord. Parking is available approximately 250 meters south of the beach. An information and warning sign is posted at the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification is based on regular control samples collected during 2019–2022 and is revised annually before the bathing season. The area is not connected to public sewerage. Rudebæk stream has its outlet just west of the beach and drains a larger forest and agricultural area. Both the outlet and surrounding contributions to pollution are assessed as relatively low.

Risks

Cyanobacteria blooms can occur, most often after rainy periods followed by warm weather. Signs include unclear discolored water, foam formation, and dead animals. Large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) may occur at the shoreline; bathing is not recommended near large accumulations due to toxin production in decomposing seaweed and protection of disease-causing bacteria from UV rays. Sudden contamination from incidents involving pleasure boats, manure tanks, and sewage pipes is possible. Pollution risk is highest during strong winds and heavy rain.
