Water

Saltwater beach on the North Sea. The beach is 350 meters long and 50 to 110 meters wide. The seabed consists of fine sand with small stones. Water depth increases steeply and is highly variable due to tidal and weather conditions.

Location

The beach is located west of Ferring, accessed via Transvej road leading to a parking area with associated toilet facilities. A steep staircase connects the parking area to the beach.

Parking area, toilet facilities with drinking water, lifeguard station, rescue rings, disabled access facilities, blue flag, warning sign for degraded water quality, waste bins.

Season

Routine water quality monitoring is conducted during the bathing season. The beach classification is reviewed annually before the start of the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Based on routine monitoring samples analyzed for E. coli and Enterococcus bacteria collected regularly during 2020–2023. The classification meets required standards. No fecal sources with potential to degrade water quality have been identified in the surrounding area.

Risks

Risk of rip currents; swimmers should be alert to rapidly changing water depth due to tides and weather. Rip currents are identified as the cause of most bathing accidents worldwide; the technique to escape is to not fight the current but to swim parallel to shore. Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large quantities of macroalgae washing ashore. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur.
