Denmark Lake 1 - Excellent

Førby Sø is a nutrient-poor lake located 2.5 km southeast of Nørre Vorupør in Denmark. The bathing area consists of a flat grass area on the eastern shore of the lake, approximately 20 meters wide and 300 meters long, bordered by two marsh areas. The lake bed is sandy with reeds growing at the water's edge. The surrounding landscape is open and protected, featuring dunes, heathland, streams, and lakes.

Water

Nutrient-poor lake with depth less than 20 meters. The lake bed consists of sand. The bathing area is approximately 20 meters wide and 300 meters long. Water temperature ranges from 10–21 degrees Celsius during summer months (May to August). Weak currents depend on wind conditions. The western part has several small inflows, and the northeastern part has an outflow.

Location

Located 2.5 km southeast of Nørre Vorupør. Access via route 539 (Vorupørvej) from Nørre Vorupør, turning right after approximately 2.5 km onto the gravel road Vorupørvej and continuing for about 500 meters. Parking area available.

Season

Bathing water monitoring occurs throughout the bathing season. Water temperature is suitable for bathing from May to August.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent, the highest bathing water classification. This classification is based on bathing water analyses from the last four years. Water quality is monitored continuously throughout the bathing season.

Risks

Non-cloaked areas exist in the near catchment, but discharges from non-cloaked areas are not assessed as a risk for short-term fecal contamination based on analyses. Manure tanks and large livestock farms are located close to the bathing site, but manure discharge is not assessed as a risk for water pollution. Algal blooms are not assessed as a risk because no blooms have been observed in the area, though blue-green algae can potentially occur after prolonged periods of warm, sunny, and calm weather typically in late summer.
