Stenbjerg Strand is a sandy beach with stones located on the North Sea coast between Hanstholm and Agger in Denmark. The beach is 50–60 metres wide and more than 300 metres long, reaching a depth of 2 metres approximately 100 metres from the water's edge. The beach is surrounded by protected heathland with dunes, heaths, and lakes, and forms part of the Natura 2000 site between Stenbjerg and Lodbjerg. The bathing water has been classified as excellent, the highest water quality category.

Water

Sandy beach with stones located on the North Sea (Vesterhavet). Beach dimensions: 50–60 metres wide, more than 300 metres long. Water depth reaches 2 metres approximately 100 metres from the shore. Salinity: 30–35 psu. Currents predominantly northerly. Summer water temperature (May to August): 7–21 degrees Celsius.

Location

Stenbjerg Strand is accessed via route 181 (Kystvejen) from Hanstholm; turn right at the roundabout at Stenbjerg. The nearest address is Stenbjerg Landingsplads 11, 7755 Snedsted. Approximately 200 metres from the car park to the water's edge. Parking available.

Bathing water analyses conducted throughout the bathing season. Summer period (May to August).

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as excellent, the highest quality category based on four years of water analysis data. Non-kloakeret (unsewered) areas exist in the nearby catchment, but water analyses show no faecal contamination. No treatment plant outfalls, combined sewer overflows, stormwater discharges, slurry spills, or aquaculture operations in the vicinity.

Risks

Foam algae (skumalger) can occur during westerly winds, discolouring water brown and producing foul-smelling foam; not toxic but aesthetically unpleasant. Seaweed (tang) can be washed ashore during rough weather and onshore winds, creating aesthetic problems and odours as it decomposes.
