Nørre Vorupør Strand og Havbad is a bathing area on the North Sea coast between Hanstholm and Agger in Denmark. The beach consists of coarse sand, is approximately 100 metres wide and 4 kilometres long, and is sheltered by high dunes. The beach has clear water and a sandy bottom. The Havbad is a separate facility, an excavated area of approximately 3,500 square metres with a connection to the sea, featuring varying water depths rarely exceeding 1.5 metres, no dangerous currents or waves, and a concrete-sand bottom.

Water

The beach is located on the North Sea coast and consists of approximately 100 metres width and 4 kilometres length of coarse sand with a sandy bottom. The beach is sheltered by high dunes vegetated with marram grass. Water depth at the bathing site increases rapidly; approximately 60 metres from the shoreline the water is 2 metres deep. Salinity ranges from 30-35 psu. The Havbad excavated area has varying water depths rarely exceeding 1.5 metres.

Location

The bathing area is located in Nørre Vorupør, near Thisted Municipality in northwestern Denmark. Access is from Coastal Road (Kystvejen) from Hanstholm via route 181, turning right towards Nørre Vorupør Strand on Hawblink Road for approximately 2 kilometres. A parking area is located approximately 130 metres from the water's edge. The Havbad is positioned on the beach immediately south of the pier.

Toilets, waste bins, parking spaces, lifeguard service (redningstrekant), information signage, and kiosks or shops.

Season

The bathing season runs from May to August, with water temperatures in this period ranging from 7 to 21 degrees Celsius.

Water Quality

Bathing water at Nørre Vorupør Strand is classified as excellent quality, the highest classification possible for a bathing site. This classification is based on data from four years of water quality analyses. The Havbad is expected to also have excellent quality based on two years of results. Water quality is monitored continuously throughout the bathing season.

Risks

Foam algae (skumalger) can occur periodically during westerly winds, colouring water brown and producing foul-smelling foam on beaches; the algae are non-toxic but aesthetically unpleasant. Microscopic algae may accumulate on the sandy bottom of the Havbad, causing discoloration. Macroalgae (seaweed) can be washed ashore during strong weather and onshore winds, creating aesthetic problems and odours. Blue-green algae blooms are not expected due to the turbulent conditions at the west coast.
