Frølunde Fed Strand is a sandy beach approximately 100 metres long and 15–20 metres wide located on Denmark's open coast facing northwest in Slagelse Municipality. The beach is backed by dune and salt marsh vegetation, with sand seabed in the northeastern section and more stony seabed in the southwestern part. Reef formations begin approximately 30–50 metres from the shore. Water depth reaches 2 metres within 320–350 metres from the beach. The bathing water is classified as excellent based on monitoring data from 2012–2017.

Water

Saltwater beach with sandy seabed in the northeastern section and stony seabed in the southwestern section. The beach is approximately 100 metres long and 15–20 metres wide. Water depth reaches 2 metres within 320–350 metres from the shore. Reef formations occur approximately 30–50 metres from the coast. Dominant current direction is from the west (58% of measurements).

Location

Located on the open coast facing Musholm Bay and the Great Belt (Storebælt) in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. Access is via Broholmvej, with parking available at a car park south of the beach. An information board is installed at the car park where Slagelse Municipality posts warnings of reduced bathing water quality.

Water Quality

Bathing water quality is classified as excellent based on data from 2012–2017. Monitoring is conducted six times per year. Potential fecal pollution sources include Tude Å stream (approximately 1.1 km north), which receives discharge from Slagelse treatment plant with overflow risk during extreme rainfall, and the summer house area which relies on septic tanks and infiltration systems presenting contamination risk during extreme rainfall. The impact from Tude Å on bathing water quality is assessed as minor. Risk of short-term contamination exists, particularly during extreme rainfall.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms, though sudden blooms can occur during warm periods with high nutrient levels. Cyanobacteria produce toxins causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea. Risk of seaweed (tang) washing ashore, though currents typically remove it within days; decaying seaweed can produce toxins and harbour disease-causing bacteria. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills occasionally occur. Risk of fecal contamination from Tude Å during extreme rainfall; Slagelse Municipality advises against swimming for 3 days following extreme rainfall. Sudden contamination from boat accidents, manure tanks, and sewer pipes is possible.
