Furesø at Badested ved Birkerød Sejlklub is a bathing spot located on the northern shore of Furesø lake, consisting of a wooden bathing pier with no sand beach. The water is fresh, with depths ranging from 1 metre at the shore to 2 metres at the end of the piers. The bathing water quality has been classified as excellent based on data from 2020–2023. The spot is situated in an area called Store Kalv, near the scenic area known as Vaserne, and is used by rowers and sailors.

Water

Furesø is a freshwater lake. Water depth varies from 1 metre at the shore to 2 metres at the end of the two wooden piers. The lake bed consists of sand with occasional small stones. Vigorous plant growth may occur. No strong underwater currents are expected.

Located at the end of Plantagevej at Birkerød Sejlclub in Rudersdal Municipality, northern Copenhagen area. No parking information provided.

Season

Monitoring period 1 June to 1 September. Water quality monitoring in 2024 will include at least 6 samples during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent (2020–2023 data). The bathing spot is affected by sewer overflow during heavy rainfall from combined sewer systems in the catchment area. Three discharge outlets are identified in proximity (A02A002 approximately 100 metres west, A03SB00 approximately 300 metres west, and A05E060 approximately 600 metres west). Overflow frequency varies annually; contamination typically lasts a maximum of 3 days after heavy rainfall. Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) produce toxins that can cause headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea. General algal bloom occurs around July. Cercariae (parasitic flatworm larvae) are present; citizens have reported symptoms resembling schistosome dermatitis after swimming.

Risks

Sewer overflow during heavy rainfall. Cyanobacteria blooms, particularly around July. Cercariae (parasitic flatworm larvae) present in water. Diving from the piers is discouraged. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills occasionally occur. Rowers and sailors use the water.
