Hampen Sø, P-Plads

Denmark Lake 1 - Excellent

Hampen Sø is a clear-water lake covering 67 hectares, classified as excellent bathing water quality. Swimming is permitted from two sandy beaches located on the western and northern ends of the lake. The lake sits at 79 metres elevation on the Jutland ridge and is surrounded mostly by forest. Water visibility is generally good, exceeding 1 metre depth.

Water

Freshwater lake of 67 hectares. Western section (Lillesø) has water depth of 2–3 metres. Eastern section (Storesø) reaches 13 metres depth. Visibility depth is normally over 1 metre. Water exchange rate is very slow at 1–2 years. The lake has no significant inflow except small forest ditches and drains to Skjern Å river.

Location

Hampen Sø is located in Ikast-Brande Municipality, Denmark. A parking area with entrance from route 13 is available at the western beach, featuring an information board, toilets, tables and benches. Another parking area is accessible via Hampenbjergvej for the northern beach.

Facilities

Parking areas, information boards, toilets, tables, and benches are available at both bathing beaches.

Water Quality

Water is classified as excellent quality, the highest classification possible under bathing water regulations. Classification is based on monitoring samples from the previous four years and is revised annually before the bathing season begins. No known pollution sources in the immediate area.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) bloom is low. Risk of phytoplankton bloom is low.
