Kleppen Strand is a 500-metre-long beach composed of sand with small stones and mussel shells scattered evenly across its surface. The beach is 10–20 metres wide and located in scenic surroundings along Venø Sund, approximately 270 metres west of the Venø ferry terminal. The beach runs alongside Strandbjerggårdvej and is surrounded by natural areas with a small woodland to the north. Water depth increases relatively quickly offshore from the beach.

Water

Saltwater in Limfjorden. The beach is 500 metres long and 10–20 metres wide. Water depth increases relatively quickly offshore. The fjord floor off the beach consists of sand with small stones. Current direction is variable but primarily from the west, based on 30 measurements taken between 2008–2010.

Location

Bremdal, Struer Municipality, Denmark. The beach is located approximately 270 metres west of the Venø ferry terminal along Venø Sund. Parking is available at each end of the beach.

Facilities

Toilets, trash bins, rescue ring, parking, information signage for water quality warnings.

Season

Routine monitoring takes place during the bathing season. Water quality classification is revised annually in May before the start of the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring samples analysed for faecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) taken during the bathing season. No known sources of faecal pollution capable of degrading water quality have been identified in the area around Kleppen Strand.

Risks

Risk of algal bloom (cyanobacteria and phytoplankton) assessed as low. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) washed ashore in the water's edge. Possible sudden pollution from boat accidents, manure tanks, and sewer pipes. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur.
