Høl

Denmark Coastal 2 - Good

Høl is a small beach located in a cove on the rocky coast west of Listed on Bornholm. The beach features a sandy area of approximately 700 m² at the base of the cove, which extends about 50 m from the outermost rocks. The water is shallow near the sandy beach but deepens toward the rock bottom, with depths exceeding 10 meters beyond the cove.

Location

The beach is located in Høl near Listed on Bornholm. Access is via Mosedalsvej and Mor Markers Gænge. A small public car park is situated approximately 100 m from the beach at Mor Markers Gænge. Toilets are available at the car park. Restaurants and shops are available in Listed.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as 'good' based on monitoring data from 2016–2019. No pollution sources are identified in the vicinity. Monitoring data from the municipality's control station shows consistently good water quality over many years.

Risks

Blue-green algal blooms (Nodosaria spumigena, Aphanizomenon flos-aqua) occur naturally in the Baltic Sea around Bornholm during the warm season, typically July–August, particularly in sunny, calm periods. Algae can produce toxic substances; children and dogs should avoid bathing where algae are abundant. Seaweed and macroalgae periodically wash ashore, causing seaweed odor and aesthetic issues. Strong currents and wave action can occur outside the cove during onshore winds.
