Svaneke Harbour Bath is a designated bathing area located on the eastern coast of Bornholm at the entrance to Svaneke Harbour. The bathing area is situated between a new and old breakwater installed in 2011, with a bathing ladder and diving tower mounted on the mole. The water has stable salinity levels between 7 and 8 ‰ and experiences generally small current speeds due to protection from the outer breakwater and other harbour structures that reduce wave action.

Location

The bathing area is located in Svaneke on Bornholm's east coast. Access is via Peter F. Heerings Gade from Storegade/Havnebryggen. Parking is available on the harbour area to the south and at the end of Gruset road to the north. Public toilets are located in a building at the corner of Lakseruten and Peter F. Heerings Gade. Shops, restaurants, and tourist information are available in Svaneke.

Water Quality

Water classified as 'good' based on data from 2016–2019. The latest bathing water report is available on the municipality website www.brk.dk under Culture and Recreation/Outdoor Recreation.

Risks

Possible pollution sources include sewage system overflows. During heavy rainfall events, overloaded sewers may discharge mixed wastewater into the Baltic Sea. An emergency overflow is located north of the breakwater, and a stormwater outlet and emergency overflow are located in the bay to the south. Blue-green algal blooms (Nodularia spumigena, Aphanizomenon flos-aqua, and others) occur naturally in the Baltic Sea around Bornholm annually during warm months (July–August), particularly in sunny, windless periods. These algae can form toxic substances; small children and dogs should not bathe where algae accumulations are dense. Risk of seaweed accumulation at the harbour bath is relatively low.
