A sandy beach in Fano with fine quartz-feldspar and limestone-flint sand, protected by artificial rocky breakwaters. The beach has a medium slope of 1–3% and an average width of 64 metres. The distance between average low and high tide marks extends 80 metres. The surrounding area is densely urbanized with a railway line passing nearby.

Coastal marine water body designated as Fano_Senigallia. Tidal range: 30–50 cm. Area: 0.25515 km². Habitat includes fine sandy bottom with artificial rocky protection.

Location

Fano, Pesaro Urbino Province, Marche region, Italy. Located at Via Faa di Bruno n. 88. Parking for disabled persons is available with accessible pathways from parking to beach.

First aid and lifeguard service, toilets with disabled access, showers, disabled parking with accessible pathway to beach, sports facilities, children's play area, refreshment point. One concession area, one free beach area, one boat storage area with launching corridor.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. The coastline is served by a sewage network of approximately 260 km, with wastewater treated at three active sludge treatment plants. The primary plant 'Ponte Metauro' treats approximately 12,000 cubic metres daily. 'Bellocchi' plant treats approximately 2,000 cubic metres daily. 'Ponte Sasso' plant treats 1,000–1,500 cubic metres daily in winter and 3,000–4,000 in summer. Combined sewage overflows discharge during intense rainfall via 17 overflow structures (7 from Ponte Metauro, 10 from Ponte Sasso). One mixed-water overflow from Camping Gabbiano discharges onto the beach. Testing conducted 12 times yearly for Table 1 parameters and 6 times yearly for Table 3 parameters under Legislative Decree 152/2006, all compliant with legal limits.

Risks

Non-toxic microalgae bloom (Noctiluca scintillans) with anomalous water discoloration occurred during bathing seasons 2008 and 2009. Potential for sewage overflow discharge during heavy rainfall events.
