Jels Nedersø is a bathing site in Jels, Denmark, consisting of connected pontoon bridges and a small sandy area of approximately 25 by 10 metres. The bathing area extends about 60 metres along the water's edge, with sand and aquatic vegetation present both at the waterline and extending into the water. The site is located in a region surrounded by deciduous forest in the upper hinterland, golf courses to the west, and predominantly agricultural land elsewhere.

Water

Freshwater lake. The bathing area extends approximately 60 metres and includes pontoon bridges and a sandy zone of approximately 25 by 10 metres. Water depth varies as shown on the site map. Water current flows westward, away from the bathing site.

Location

The bathing site is located in Jels. Access is from Søvej, where parking spaces are available. Information about the beach is posted at the main building.

Water Quality

Water is classified as excellent quality based on data from 2019–2022. Salt content is 0.5%. The water is not burdened by wastewater, as all properties in Jels are connected to a common treatment plant. Wastewater from Jels is pumped to Rødding treatment plant with no discharge of treated wastewater to the lake.

Risks

Low risk of swimmers itch (caused by parasitic flatworm larvae). Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms, which may occur after rainy periods followed by warm weather; signs include discoloured water, foam formation, and dead animals. Macroalgae (seaweed) can occur in the bathing area; bathing is not recommended near large quantities of macroalgae due to potential toxin formation in decaying seaweed and protection of disease-causing bacteria from UV rays. Glass shards and litter occasionally occur.
