Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Costalovara Lake centre is a natural lake located at the southeastern edge of the Renon plateau towards Bolzano. The lake has a rocky bottom composed exclusively of quarziferous porphyry overlaid with moraine deposits. The bathing area features meadow and partly wooded surroundings. The lake reaches a maximum depth of approximately 4.5 metres in its eastern section.

Natural lake formed by moraine barriers. Maximum depth approximately 4.5 metres in the eastern section. Rocky bottom composed of quarziferous porphyry with overlaid moraine deposits. Part of the Adige River basin.

Location

Located in Renon municipality, Bolzano Province, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano-South Tyrol. The bathing area extends 0.760 km along the shoreline. Altitude is 1176 metres above sea level.

Facilities are indicated locally by the competent municipal administration.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is excellent based on 2024 evaluation using data from 2021-2024. Active limnological monitoring of the lake conducted with 3 samplings per year.

Risks

After rainfall, nutrients from agricultural meadows north of the lake can be washed in through an tributary. Short-duration pollution events are considered unlikely. No cyanobacteria proliferation events have been recorded. No phytoplankton proliferation events have been recorded.
