Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Lake Fié is situated at the foot of Monte Scilliar in a depression formed by glacial erosion. The bathing area is located at the northern end of the lake in front of a wooden pontile, with reed beds lining the shore. Towards the south, the lake becomes progressively shallower and transitions into a sedimentation zone covered with reeds. An artificial dam has been constructed to maintain the lake.

Water

Lake in a glacially-formed depression. Coastal extension in the bathing area: 0.35 km. The lake becomes progressively shallower towards the south. Hydrographic basin: Adige River.

Location

Fiè allo Sciliar municipality in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, northern Italy. The bathing area is at the northern end of Lake Fié in front of a pontile. Elevation: 1,056 meters above sea level.

Facilities

Wooden pontiles and reed cord facilities indicated locally by the municipal administration.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent based on 2024 evaluation using data from 2021–2024. The lake has no wastewater discharges as hotel facilities and services are connected to the municipal sewerage network. Primary production may become elevated during periods of limited water exchange. Limnological monitoring is active with three sampling events per year.

Risks

Dogs are prohibited from bathing by municipal ordinance. Primary production can increase during periods of limited water exchange, though this is not currently identified as a risk event.
