Le Grazie is a small coastal bathing beach located in a small harbour in Portovenere, Liguria. The beach is situated between two restricted zones: the Valdettaro Naval Shipyards to the west and a floating dock to the east. It is part of the La Spezia Gulf water body and covers an area of 0.053 km². Public gardens are located upslope from the beach.

Water Quality

Classification pending as this bathing water was officially introduced to the monitoring programme in the 2017 season. The water is influenced by rivermouth outlets (Canale di Mezzo and Canale del Rio) and port-related activities. No urban treatment plants or sewage pipes are present in the zone. The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to oligotrophic conditions. Microalgal proliferation of Ostreopsis ovata has occurred in Liguria over the past decade. The reference monitoring station (PORT) at Portovenere has not exceeded the 30,000 cells/litre limit since 2013.

Risks

Shipyard activities and port infrastructure present in the vicinity. Rivermouth outlets (Canale di Mezzo and Canale del Rio) discharge into the area. Ostreopsis ovata microalgal species can produce toxins affecting respiratory tracts and causing fever in sensitive individuals through aerosol inhalation.
