Lido Di Maccagno

Italy Lake 1 - Excellent

Lido di Maccagno is a free-access pebble beach located on the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore near the town centre of Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca in Lombardy, Italy. The beach has an adjacent grass area and measures 15 metres in width. The water quality has been classified as excellent based on monitoring data from 2019 to 2022. The site is situated at an altitude of 193 metres above sea level on a lake body with an area of 0.263 square kilometres.

Location

Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca, Varese Province, Lombardy, eastern shore of Lake Maggiore near the town centre. Parking is available on site.

Facilities

Parking, bar, restaurants, toilets, shower facilities, drinking water fountain. Animals are permitted.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference period 2019–2022). Monitoring includes testing for pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci, as well as cyanobacteria. The monitoring buoy at Pallanza (CNR and ARPA) tracks bacterial presence and concentration. No exceedances of regulatory thresholds have been observed in the last three years.

Risks

Possible short-duration pollution events from rainwater runoff, standing water, and various spillages during unfavourable meteorological conditions such as severe weather events. Accidental or unauthorised discharges of liquids or polluting debris are possible. Seasonal algal blooms are possible, though no toxic effects to bathers or environmental damage have been recorded in recent years.
