Santa Cristiana is a bathing beach in Numana, Ancona province, Marche region. The beach has fine calcareous and siliceous gravel with an average slope of 3% on the emerged beach and 8% on the submerged beach. The beach extends 500 metres in length and 35 metres in width, with a distance of 4 metres between mean low and high water (safe water limit). The surrounding area consists of urban and tourist settlements.

Coastal marine water body named Numana_Porto Recanati. The beach has a mean astronomical tidal range of 30–50 cm. Area: 0.93007 hectares. Submerged beach slope: 8%.

Location

Numana, Ancona province, Marche region. The beach is classified as Category C. Managed by the Municipality of Numana, Piazza del Santuario, 24, 60026 Numana (AN).

Facilities

Lifeguard and first aid services, services for disabled visitors, toilets, food and beverage service (bars and restaurants), sports facilities, children's play structures, launch corridor for tourist boat embarkation and disembarkation.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. Monthly monitoring by ARPAM in 2010 showed E. coli levels ranging from below detection limit to 110 CFU/100 ml. Treatment of wastewater from Osimo, Castelfidardo, Numana, and Sirolo via a biological activated sludge treatment plant located in Castelfidardo with a capacity of 62,000 equivalent inhabitants serves approximately 22,150 urban equivalent inhabitants, with approximately 6,550 from productive activities. During intense rainfall, overflow occurs through discharge points along the beach.

Risks

Windsurfing and sailing schools operate in the area. During intense rainfall, wastewater overflow from the mixed sewer system may occur through discharge points along the beach. From 2007 to 2010, no algal blooms typical of the coastline were recorded.
