Sãozinha is an urban beach located in Vila Nova de Gaia with a wide sand strip and rocky outcrops. The beach is bordered by a line of dunes. It is situated within the Douro River basin.

2025 bathing season: 14 June to 14 September.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). Sampling frequency is every 3 weeks. Potential microbiological pollution sources include faecal contamination from the local sanitation network. No bathing bans or advisories were recorded due to short-term pollution events during the 2024 bathing season.

Risks

Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to malfunctions in the wastewater lifting station. Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is moderate with a history of blooms. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation potential is low with no recorded history of occurrence.
