Naldtang

Naldtang is a bathing beach located on the eastern side of Varnæshoved near Varnæs Forest Lake in Denmark. The beach is approximately 300 meters long with varying widths of 6 to 10 meters. The beach is predominantly stony with small sandy areas interspersed throughout. Water depth remains under 5 meters up to approximately 200 meters from the shoreline. The beach is accessible by road via Naldtangvej and has a parking area with facilities and information signage.

Water

Saltwater bathing area. Water depth is under 5 meters within approximately 200 meters from the shoreline. The seabed consists of sand and stones along the water's edge, transitioning to sand further out. Current direction is typically northerly.

Location

The beach is located on the eastern side of Varnæshoved near Varnæs Forest Lake, with Naldtangvej running close to the shore. A parking area is available directly in front of the beach. Approximately 25 households are located about 1 kilometer inland from the shore.

Season

The official bathing season is from 1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

The bathing water at Naldtang has not yet been classified because the monitoring station was relocated. The previous station at Naldtang, located north of the current location, had excellent quality classification.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria blooms exists, typically after rainy periods followed by warm weather. Large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) can occur at the water's edge, and swimming is not recommended in areas with significant macroalgae accumulation. Two discharge outlets are present: one from road drainage along Naldtangvej and another from Varnæs Forest Lake. Sudden contamination can occur from accidents involving pleasure boats, manure tanks, and sewage lines. Heavy wind and rain showers pose the greatest risk for short-term pollution, which typically lasts a maximum of 3 days. Glass shards, waste, and chemical contamination including oil spills occasionally occur.
