Oddesund Vest is a 450-meter-long beach located on Oddesund in Limfjorden, near a rest area. The beach is 30 to 50 meters wide and consists primarily of sand covered by small to medium-sized stones, with a small sandy area at the water's edge. The fjord bottom in front of the beach is covered with small and medium-sized stones. The water is classified as saltwater with variable current directions, primarily from the west.

Water

Saltwater fjord (Limfjorden). Water depth increases relatively rapidly due to a navigation channel in Oddesund. Current direction is variable, primarily from the west, with measurements from 2008-2010 showing 30 recordings of current direction patterns.

Location

Oddesund Vest is situated at Oddesundvej near a rest area in Limfjorden. The small community of Oddesund Syd is located east of the beach, and the Grisetåodde area with a historic lighthouse is to the north. Parking is available at the rest area.

Season

Routine water quality monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Classification is reviewed annually in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring for fecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) conducted during the bathing season. Monitoring data from 2011-2014 showed concentrations of fecal bacteria well below limit values. No sources of fecal pollution capable of degrading water quality have been identified in the surrounding area.

Risks

Sudden changes in water depth require swimmer awareness. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) wash-up at the water's edge. Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Possible sudden pollution from incidents such as pleasure boat accidents, slurry tank leaks, and sewer line breaks. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur.
