Toftum Bjerge Strand is a 500-metre-long beach located on Nissum Bredning fjord in northern Denmark. The beach is primarily sandy with scattered small stones and shells, and is 20 metres wide. It is situated north of a large summer house area and a campsite, separated from these developments by a high cliff. The surrounding landscape includes natural areas and golf courses to the northeast and agricultural land to the southwest.

Water

Nissum Bredning fjord. The water is classified as saltwater. The fjord bottom consists of sand covered with small stones. Water depth gradually increases from the shore, reaching less than 2 metres at 140 metres from the coast. Current direction is variable but primarily from the west.

Location

Toftum Bjerge area, Struer Municipality, Denmark. The beach is accessible by parking facilities as indicated on the overview map.

Toilet facilities, waste bins, parking, disabled access, rescue buoys, first aid kit, emergency telephone, blue flag status, and warning signs for water quality alerts.

Season

Routine monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Classification is reviewed annually in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Bathing water is classified as Excellent quality, meeting all regulatory requirements. Classification is based on routine monitoring for E. coli and enterococcus bacteria conducted during the bathing season from 2011-2014. No fecal pollution sources have been identified in the vicinity of the beach.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Risk of large macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation in the water is low. Sudden pollution from accidents involving leisure boats, slurry tanks, or sewage pipes is possible. Glass, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur. No registered short-term pollution sources of fecal bacteria are known.
