Sunddraget Oddesund

Sunddraget Oddesund is a 300-metre-long beach in Nissum Bredning, west of a small summer house area. The beach is composed of sand mainly covered with small to medium-sized stones and mussel shells, with visible sand only in the lowest 3–5 metres from the water's edge. The fjord bottom offshore is covered with medium-sized stones. The beach is part of a scenic nature area in Oddesund, offering landscapes ranging from wetlands to steep cliffs.

Water

Saltwater fjord in Limfjorden. Water depth increases gradually offshore, reaching 2 metres at approximately 230 metres from the coast. Current direction is variable, primarily from the west. The beach is 20 metres wide and 300 metres long.

Location

Sunddraget Oddesund, Nissum Bredning, Oddesund, Denmark. Accessible by car through the adjacent summer house area. Responsible authority: Struer Kommune, Østergade 11-15, 7600 Struer.

Season

Routine monitoring conducted during the bathing season. Classification revised annually in May before the start of the bathing season.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent quality. Classification based on routine monitoring of indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) conducted during the bathing season from 2011–2014. No identified fecal pollution sources detected in the surrounding area. Classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Risk of macroalgae washup is low. Sudden pollution from boating accidents, slurry tanks, or sewage lines is possible. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur. Swimming is not recommended in unclear water or near algae accumulations or foam.
