Palombina Vecchia is a beach in Falconara Marittima with fine quartz-feldspar and limestone sand. The beach extends 270 meters in length and 50 meters in width with a gentle 3% slope. It is protected by artificial rocky outcrops and is surrounded by urban development with a railway line passing nearby.

Water

Coastal water body between the Esino and Musone rivers. Astronomical tide range is 30–50 centimeters.

Location

Located in Falconara Marittima, Ancona Province, Marche Region, Italy. The beach is 80 meters wide between average water level and high tide. Parking and facilities are available at the beach.

Facilities

Bar, restaurants, toilets, and bathing establishments. Animals are not permitted.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent from 2015 to 2018. 2015: Escherichia coli 95th percentile 31.3 CFU/100 mL, intestinal enterococci 19.9 CFU/100 mL. 2016: Escherichia coli 90.2 CFU/100 mL, intestinal enterococci 35.2 CFU/100 mL. 2017: Escherichia coli 142.3 CFU/100 mL, intestinal enterococci 32.1 CFU/100 mL. 2018: Escherichia coli 248.2 CFU/100 mL, intestinal enterococci 29.8 CFU/100 mL. Wastewater treatment is provided by the Vallechiara treatment plant serving approximately 70,000 inhabitants equivalent.

Risks

Overflow discharges from sewage system during exceptional rainfall events. Seasonal blooms of non-toxic microalga Fibrocapsa japonica in July and August. Non-stinging jellyfish Cotylorhiza tubercolata and stinging jellyfish Charybdea species are present.
