Porta Cartara is a bathing beach on the Torrente Castellano stream in the Marche region. The emerged beach measures 55 metres in length with variable width from 8 to 20 metres. Water level variation is minimal due to the accumulation zone formed by upstream and downstream weirs. The surrounding area contains urban settlements, tourist facilities, and a cycling and pedestrian path.

Water

Torrente Castellano stream (Tratto 1 C.I._B). Emerged beach length 55 metres, variable width 8–20 metres. Distance between medium-low and high water level approximately 1 metre. Mean beach width 10 metres.

Nearby refreshment points with toilet facilities. Animals are permitted.

Water Quality

2015–2017: Insufficiently sampled. 2018: Excellent classification with 95th percentile Escherichia coli = 222.9 and 95th percentile Enterococchi intestinali = 187.7. The area is served by combined public sewerage connected to a treatment plant with a lift station and overflow structures. A flood overflow system (Borgo Cartaro Secondo - Via Ionio) with capacity of 130 equivalent inhabitants operates upstream.

Risks

Mixed stormwater and wastewater discharge during rainfall events. Accidental malfunctions and overflow possible. Significant hydrological regime changes occur due to an Enel Green Power reservoir located approximately 4 kilometres upstream; a protocol with warning and alarm thresholds has been activated to monitor hydrological variations. No cyanobacteria proliferation risk identified. No reports of algae, macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species.
