Pareklisia Beach is a sandy beach located in the Saint Raphael Marina area of Limassol, Cyprus. The beach has its greatest width on the eastern side and is bordered by the Saint Raphael Marina to the east and Santa Barbara Beach to the west. The beach experiences seasonal algae coverage, particularly during winter months due to wave action and maritime currents. Water quality at this beach is classified as excellent based on monitoring data.

Water

Coastal marine water body named Saint Raphael Marina. Beach length: 350 metres. Average water depth: 1.5 metres. Maximum water depth: 2.5 metres. Sandy substrate with scattered pebbles. The shoreline is oriented to open sea with prevailing wave action during the monitoring season.

Location

Limassol District, Pareklisia Community, Cyprus. The monitoring point is located at coordinates 33.1646°E, 34.7118°N (ETRS89). The beach is adjacent to Saint Raphael Marina on the eastern side.

Facilities

No public facilities available on the beach. Toilets are provided by adjacent hotel units. Beach cleaning is managed by Pareklisia Community Council. Summer services include loungers and umbrellas. Lifeguard services with equipment available from 10:00 to 17:00 during the swimming season. Blue Flag designation awarded. Maximum daily bathers: 300 people.

Season

Lifeguard services and monitoring conducted during the official swimming season. Prevailing winds are southwestern during the swimming season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. Coastal water body is in good ecological status. Monitoring has been conducted for many years. Formal monitoring reports under Directive 76/160/EEC have been prepared since Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004. Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication development identified based on pollution sources.

Risks

Seasonal algae coverage occurs, particularly during winter months. Short-term pollution incidents recorded during 2009 swimming season from 2008 to 2010. Small risk of short-term pollution from rainwater runoff and passing vessels. Possible pollution sources include the adjacent Saint Raphael Marina and vessel operations. Frequency of short-term pollution events: once during swimming season with duration of 1–2 days.
