Playa Paseo del Espejo is a urban family-oriented beach in Los Alcázares located in the Mar Menor coastal area. The beach is 800 metres long with an average width of 20 metres and a natural sandy composition with dark sand bottom. It experiences high occupancy during daily recreational use, with an estimated maximum of 9,013 bathers. Water renewal occurs within 7 days.

Coastal marine water body in the Mar Menor. Beach length 800 metres, average width 20 metres. Natural sandy composition with dark sand bottom. Microtidal regime (less than 2 metres amplitude). Water renewal rate less than 7 days.

Location

Los Alcázares, in the Segura Hydrographic Region. Coordinates: UTM 689884.21 / 4180120.15 (Zone 30N), Latitude 37.746849°, Longitude -0.846021°. A waterfront promenade is present at the beach.

Facilities

Foot showers (3 available, discharging directly to sand). No showers, toilets, or changing rooms available.

Water Quality

Water quality from 2000–2009 was rated excellent except in 2008 when rated as good. In 2010 and 2011 quality was rated as excellent. Toxic phytoplankton monitoring in 2008 and 2009 showed practically no presence of potentially toxic cells. The Mar Menor water body has acceptable ecological status.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon rarely affecting public health or ecosystems; risk assessed as null or very low. No significant pollution pressure identified. Jellyfish appear seasonally with peak abundance from early spring to late summer; jellyfish production is highly variable.
