Remmerstrand is a 500-meter-long sandy beach located along Nissum Bredning in Lemvig Municipality, Denmark. The beach is 25 meters wide and features sand with scattered small and medium-sized stones. The seafloor beyond the beach is also covered with small and medium-sized stones. The area surrounding the beach consists of natural habitats and planted areas that create a pleasant atmosphere. The water is classified as saltwater with variable current directions primarily from the west.

Water

Saltwater fjord (Limfjorden). The beach is 500 meters long and 25 meters wide. Water depth increases gradually, reaching 2 meters at approximately 220 meters from the coast. Current direction is variable and primarily from the west.

Location

Remmerstrand is located north of Remmerstrandlejren along Nissum Bredning. Access is via Remmerstrandvej, where parking is available near the camp school on a side road.

Season

Routine water quality monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Annual classification revision takes place in May.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Good (2023 classification based on samples from 2020-2023). The classification meets threshold requirements. In 2022, the water was classified as Excellent. Monitoring is based on indicator bacteria E. coli and Enterococcus. Two streams can introduce high faecal bacteria concentrations during rainfall: Fald Å to the east and an unnamed stream 1.5 km to the west. Sewerage infrastructure was installed in 2013-2014 to address wastewater disposal issues. The 2023 classification declined from Excellent to Good, possibly due to heavy rainfall and runoff from surrounding agricultural areas.

Risks

Faecal contamination from two nearby streams (Fald Å to the east and a stream 1.5 km to the west) during rainfall. Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of macroalgae accumulation. Occasional occurrences of broken glass, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills. Swimming is not recommended in stream outlets or at the beach during rainy weather.
