Spiaggia Est La Pietra is a bathing water in the municipality of Levanto, in the province of La Spezia, Liguria. The area consists of a rocky coast with a pebbly beach. The bathing water extends along the eastern part of Levanto beach to the north and to the south to the cliff that ends at the locality Le Rocche. The water body is classified as coastal waters with mountainous features and low stability.

Coastal water body classified as mountainous terrain with low stability (CWA3). The hydrographic basins include Fosso di Terraro, Rio Valle Cantarena, Fosso della Madonnetta, and Valle San Carlo.

Location

Located in Levanto, La Spezia province, Liguria region. The bathing area extends from the eastern part of Levanto beach northward to the cliff formation at Le Rocche to the south. The area extends 1.239 square kilometres. Contact authority: Comune di Levanto, Piazza Cavour 1.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: BUONA (Good) 2010–2013. Identified pollution sources include river mouths. No coastal treatment plants, sewage discharge conduits, or Imhoff tanks are present. The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strains have been reported in the last four years.

Risks

River mouth discharges identified as a source of pollution impact. Short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations are under assessment using a modelling approach in development.
