Water quality classification: Excellent. Based on 18 routine samples collected over the period 2021-2024. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 74.2 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile: 135.2 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci 90th percentile: 69.2 MPN/100 ml, 95th percentile: 118.5 MPN/100 ml. The bathing water is located in the homogeneous zone Maggiore 10 with medium-high pressure classification due to high density of sewage pipes. A wastewater treatment plant operates within 10 km of the monitoring point.

Risks

Rio Selva Spessa stream on the orographic left of the bathing zone may carry pollutants especially during heavy precipitation. Intense rainfall can trigger overflow structures and accidental failures of lifting installations may discharge untreated effluent into the lake. Potential pollution source: inadequate management of the sewage network.
