Stavn Badestrand is a bathing beach located in Limfjorden west of Nibe, with a 600-meter sandy shoreline. The beach is shallow, with water depth reaching approximately 0.5 meters from the shore for about 50 meters, then gradually increasing to about 1 meter over the next 100 meters. The surrounding area consists of agricultural land and coastal meadows with a small fishing village nearby. Water quality is classified as good based on monitoring data from 2020-2023.

Water

Limfjorden. Sandy beach 600 meters long and 2-8 meters wide. Water depth increases from approximately 0.5 meters at the shore to 1 meter after 100 meters, with a deep shipping lane approximately 200 meters from shore. Sand bottom. Salinity typically ranges from 22-30 ‰. Current direction is predominantly eastward. Eelgrass is present in and along the water.

Location

Stavn Badestrand is located in Limfjorden, west of Nibe and north of Stavn town in Aalborg Municipality. Public toilets and waste facilities are available near overnight accommodation huts.

Facilities

Public toilets and waste receptacles are available in connection with overnight accommodation huts. No life jackets are available at the bathing area.

Bathing water samples are taken during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is good, based on monitoring data from bathing seasons 2020-2023. Testing measures E. coli and intestinal enterococci indicator bacteria to detect fecal contamination. Possible pollution sources include three streams (two on the west side, one on the east side), one of which carries stormwater discharge; a separate sewer system with a stormwater outlet (U4.9.41); and a small fishing village.

Risks

Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation at the shoreline, which can produce toxins and shelter disease-causing bacteria. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms in Limfjorden, potentially causing skin irritation and poisoning if contaminated water is ingested. Risk of phytoplankton blooms due to relatively high nutrient content. Persistent sea foam on the shore may contain PFAS and algae. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills occasionally occur.
