Stranden ved Lynghusvej is a sandy beach located between Nykøbing Sjælland and Rørvig on the Kattegat coast in Denmark. The beach is approximately 600 meters long with a sand area about 30 meters wide. The water is brackish, a mixture of salt and fresh water. The bathing water has been classified as excellent quality based on data from 2016 to 2019.

Water

Sandy beach on the Kattegat coast. Approximately 600 meters long and 30 meters wide sand area. Water depth: approximately 6 meters to reach 0.5 meters depth, 43 meters to reach 1 meter depth, and 100 meters to reach 2 meters depth. Water is brackish (mixture of salt and fresh water). Current direction is variable, typically ranging around southwest to northeast.

Location

Located between Nykøbing Sjælland and Rørvig, accessed via Lynghusvej. Parking is available on the approach to the beach.

Facilities

Telephone, toilet, disabled toilet, waste bin, blue flag, information board, lifeguard and first aid equipment.

Water Quality

Classification 2019: Excellent quality (based on data from 2016–2019). One recorded exceedance in 2016 with bathing warning posted. Two bathing advisories were issued in 2018; resampling three days later showed water quality had returned to normal. Sources of contamination are unknown. Twenty bathing water analyses are conducted annually. Risk of cyanobacteria, phytoplankton, and macroalgae growth is low.

Risks

Two registered discharges with unknown water quality located approximately 600 meters east and 1 kilometer west of the bathing site. Bathing is advised against if water clarity is poor and feet cannot be seen at knee depth. Swimmers should rinse with clean water if clarity is poor. Children should not play or bathe near washed-up algae due to potential toxins and bacterial survival. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur.
