Strandgårdstoften is a bathing area located approximately 7.5 km south of Nyborg in southern Storebælt, the waterway between Funen and Zealand. The beach extends about 250 metres in front of a summer house area and is characterized by a rocky shore with large boulders in the water's edge and numerous washed-up stones. Swimming directly from the beach is not suitable due to the abundance of large stones both on the shore and in the water's edge, although private bathing piers are available along the beach.

Water

Storebælt, the main waterway between Funen and Zealand serving as the primary shipping route between Kattegat and the Baltic Sea. Water depth exceeds 2 metres approximately 150 metres from the shore. Salinity measured at 16 ‰ on 15 July 2010. The seabed is characterized by hard bottom with large stones extending 10–15 metres from the water's edge. Current direction is primarily northward or southward, influenced by tidal conditions and wind.

Location

Located approximately 7.5 km south of Nyborg, Denmark. Access to the beach is via a public path at Strandgårdstoften to the beach meadow, which also functions as a recreational area. Parking information is not specified.

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as excellent based on microbiological data from bathing seasons 2008–2011. Monitoring locations are at Kløverhage North and Kløverhage South, showing no deterioration in water quality over the past 8 years. Primary pollution sources include wastewater from scattered rural properties with septic tanks discharging to streams (Maemoseafløbet and Tårbæklunde-Kongshøj å), and weather-related discharge from combined sewer overflows. The Kløverhage treatment plant discharges treated wastewater 520 metres into Storebælt at approximately 10 metres depth, resulting in sufficient dilution to prevent impact on bathing water quality.

Risks

Fecal contamination from wastewater overflow during heavy rainfall (duration 2 minutes to several hours) and from scattered rural properties. Cyanobacteria risk is low with no blooms observed in the past 5 years. Phytoplankton risk is low with no significant occurrences in the past 5 years. Macroalgae accumulation can occur but specific recent incidents are not documented. Swimming is generally not recommended within 200 metres of stream outlets and weather-related discharge points.
