Strandhotellerne is a bathing beach located at Nyborg in the central part of the Great Belt (Storebælt), the waterway between Funen and Zealand. The beach stretches approximately 0.7 km and is characterized by fine sand with a beach meadow backing, scattered medium-sized stones washed up after storms, and stone jetties extending 4–5 metres from the water's edge. The beach has been one of Nyborg Municipality's five Blue Flag beaches, recognized for good bathing water quality, good facilities, and special environmental initiatives.

Water

Great Belt (Storebælt), a strait between Funen and Zealand serving as the main shipping route between Kattegat and the Baltic Sea. Water depths exceed 2 metres approximately 100 metres from the shore. The seabed is characterized by fine and firm sand with occasional medium-sized stones. Salinity measured 16 ‰ on 15 July 2010. Current direction is primarily north or south, influenced by tidal movements and wind conditions.

Location

Located at Nyborg. The beach extends from approximately 200 metres south of the outlet at Christianslund forest to Storebæltsbadet.

Facilities

The beach has been designated as a Blue Flag beach, indicating good facilities and environmental initiatives.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent. Classification is based on microbiological bathing water data from bathing seasons 2008–2011. The risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) is assessed as low, with no observed blooms, surface layers, or foam within the past five years. The risk of phytoplankton is assessed as low, with no significant observations within the past five years.

Risks

Sewage overflow from combined sewer systems during heavy rainfall poses a risk of faecal pollution. Rainwater discharge from separate sewer systems at Christianslund forest outlet may contain coliform bacteria that can be washed into the Great Belt during heavy rain. Faecal pollution from animals in Christianslund forest is possible via drainage ditches during heavy rain. An electronic warning system monitors the overflow structure at Strandalleen; bathing is advised against and swimmers are warned via electronic signage on the beach. Warnings persist for 72 hours after the last overflow event.
