Thisted Søbad is a bathing area located on the Limfjorden in central Thisted, Denmark. The facility consists of a grass area approximately 120 metres wide with two attached bathing piers and a sandy corner to the east. Water depth increases rapidly, particularly at the southern pier, while the eastern pier offers shallower, more child-friendly conditions. The bathing water has been classified as excellent quality, the highest classification possible, based on analysis data from the previous four years.

Water

The bathing area is situated on the Limfjorden. The grass area is approximately 120 metres wide with a sandy corner to the east. Water depth reaches approximately 2 metres at about 30 metres from the water's edge at the grass area, and approximately 80 metres from the water's edge at the eastern section. Salinity ranges from 18–30 psu. Summer water temperature ranges from 13–21 degrees Celsius.

Thisted Søbad is located at Thisted Kystvej, approximately 900 metres west of the harbour in central Thisted. The nearest address is Thisted Kystvej 17, 7700 Thisted. Parking is available approximately 40 metres from the water's edge, with dedicated disabled parking spaces provided.

Two bathing piers, toilets including disabled facilities, tables and benches, waste bins, life ring, parking including disabled spaces.

Season

The bathing season spans the summer months with continuous water quality monitoring throughout this period. Algal optimal growth conditions are noted between April and October.

Water Quality

The bathing water at Thisted Søbad has been classified as excellent quality, the highest classification under the four-class system (excellent, good, satisfactory, poor). This classification is based on bathing water analyses from the previous four years. Testing is conducted continuously throughout the bathing season.

Risks

Overflow events from combined sewerage systems are identified as a risk during heavy rainfall, potentially causing brief faecal contamination. Seaweed (macroalgae) may be washed up on the beach during heavy weather and onshore winds, creating aesthetic problems. Algal blooms and cyanobacteria can occur during warm, calm, sunny weather typically from April to October, though no blooms have been observed in recent years.
