Vildsund Øst

Vildsund Øst is a Blue Flag beach located on western Mors near the Vildsund Bridge to Thy. The beach is approximately 150 meters long and consists primarily of sand mixed with small stones, with a width of 5 to 8 meters. The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status since 2009 and offers extensive facilities including toilets, a private bathing pier, playground, and rescue station. Water depth increases markedly from the shore, reaching 2 meters at approximately 10 meters distance from the coast.

Water

Saltwater in Limfjorden. Water depth increases markedly from shore; approximately 10 meters from the coast, depth reaches 2 meters. The seabed consists primarily of sand and larger stones. Dominant current directions are from westerly directions.

Location

The beach is located on western Mors near the Vildsund Bridge. It is easily visible from Vildsundvej (A26) road and provides good parking facilities. The immediate catchment area includes Sundby Mors Harbour and the town of Sundby.

Toilets, private bathing pier, playground, grilling house, tables and benches, rescue station, defibrillator, Øst Vildsund Gl. Færgekro.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring samples from 2013-2016 analysed for E. coli and enterococci indicator bacteria. Annual revision of classification occurs before each bathing season. Excellent quality means fecal bacteria concentration is very low.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacterial and phytoplankton blooms is low but can occur during extended warm periods with nutrient-rich water. Large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) can wash ashore during periods of strong onshore westerly winds. Sudden contamination from ship accidents, pleasure boats, and sewer lines is possible. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occur.
