Ugerløse Strand is a sandy beach approximately 170 meters long and 10 meters wide located near Kalundborg, Denmark. The beach contains stones and is bordered by stone jetties with cliffs behind. A bathing platform is installed seasonally, and the seafloor consists of sand and small stones. The beach has been classified as Excellent based on measurements of intestinal enterococci and E. coli from 2019–2022.

Water

Seawater beach. The beach is approximately 170 meters long and 10 meters wide. The seafloor consists of sand and small stones. Primary water flow direction is southeasterly.

Location

Located near Kalundborg Kommune in Denmark. Access is via an asphalt road from Græsmarken that leads to a large grass area with parking. An asphalt ramp descends from the parking area to the beach. A campground is situated on the eastern side.

Facilities

Seasonal bathing platform with life ring. Information board about coastal walking routes. Parking available at the grass area above the beach.

Season

Bathing platform is installed seasonally. Monitoring occurs minimum 4 times per year. The classification section of the profile is reviewed annually in November after the bathing season ends.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent. Water quality is based on measurements of intestinal enterococci and E. coli from 2019–2022. Short-term pollution typically results from heavy rainfall causing overflow at the treatment plant, lasting at most 3 days after rainfall stops. Risk is assessed as minimal despite eastward current direction, as discharge occurs far out in the bay via a submarine pipeline, and overflow at Kalundborg Treatment Plant is very rare.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) bloom cannot be reliably predicted. Large quantities of seaweed (macroalgae) may occasionally occur and can promote bacterial growth and extend survival of faecal bacteria. Occasional occurrences of glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution are possible. Short-term pollution may result from heavy rainfall causing treatment plant overflow.
