Urhøj Camping is a bathing beach located on a campground in Kalundborg Municipality, Denmark. The beach is approximately 210 metres long and 10–20 metres wide, with sandy substrate and small stones. A rescue post is located at a stone jetty in the south. The beach has been classified as EXCELLENT based on measurements of intestinal enterococci and E. coli from 2018–2021. Access to the beach is available through the campground or along the shoreline, though the area between the beach and campground facilities is restricted to campground guests only.

Water

Sandy beach with small stones. Beach length approximately 210 metres, width 10–20 metres. Seabed consists of sand with small stones. Primary current direction is eastward.

Location

Holbækvej 141 B, 4400 Kalundborg, Denmark. Access is available through Urhøj Campingplads or along the shoreline.

Facilities

Rescue post at stone jetty in south. Campground amenities available for guests.

Season

Monitoring section revised annually in November following the bathing season.

Water Quality

Classification: EXCELLENT. Based on measurements of intestinal enterococci and E. coli from 2018–2021 according to EU bathing water directive rules. Kalundborg Municipality has no records of drains, watercourses, or other sources of faecal pollution near the beach. Monitoring occurs minimum 4 times per year.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms with symptoms including headache, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea. Risk of phytoplankton growth and macroalgae accumulation, which can promote bacterial growth and extend survival of faecal bacteria. Occasional occurrences of glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution.
