Zona Canottieri Chalet is a bathing area on Lake Candia in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. The bathing zone features a flat grassy area equipped with a pier. Water

Lake Candia (Lago di Candia). The water body has reduced dimensions. Characterized by strong eutrophy and low depth.

Location

Located in Candia, Turin Province, Piedmont region. The lake is surrounded by hills to the south, with the town of Candia on the western hill. The northern zone is flat and subject to intensive agriculture. Altitude: 227 metres above sea level. Area extent: 0.56 km².

Water Quality

Classification: BUONA (Good). Based on 22 routine samples from 2021–2024. Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 106.9 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 206.1 MPN/100 ml. Enterococci 90th percentile: 136.7 MPN/100 ml; 95th percentile: 251.8 MPN/100 ml. Occasional sources of bacterial faecal pollution are present, though their nature is not always certain. Potential sources include water from the Mazzé irrigation channel. The lake has no authorized direct discharges.

Risks

Cyanobacterial blooms are possible due to eutrophic conditions. Of 38 cyanobacterial samples analysed over the last four years, 19 had a density of 20,000 cells/ml or higher. No toxic effects were reported. Phytoplankton blooms other than cyanobacteria occur normally in the lake but are not toxic. Short-term pollution events can occur during intense tourist activity without proper maintenance of structures, or during water surplus from irrigation channels.
